Reporting Back on Town Halls and Tax Relief
I am happy to report that the Idaho Legislature and Governor Little have already provided over 250 million in ongoing income tax relief, putting money back in your pocket! House Bill 40 reduces the corporate and individual income tax rates from 5.695% to 5.3%.
Property tax relief was also passed last week on the Senate floor. Property tax is tricky! It is my least favorite tax and the hardest to impact at the state level. Unlike other taxes, property taxes are levied at the county, municipal, and taxing district levels, not by the state. While the Legislature can set guardrails and adjust how taxes are distributed between residential, agricultural, and commercial properties, local governments ultimately control property tax rates. The state ensures compliance with Idaho law but cannot eliminate or reduce them directly. However, the state can provide incentives for taxing districts to reduce property taxes, and, most directly, it can create or raise exemptions to address imbalances.
I pledged to be for limited government and low taxes; I will continue to fight to keep money in your pocket where it belongs.
Keeping Promises, Protecting Boise!
You may remember getting my very long campaign letter about making sure Boise does not become Portland. It was a very popular campaign piece! In fact, I had over 100 people call and donate to my campaign or request a yard sign because my message resonated. So many wanted someone to stand up and protect the Boise they love. I have been working hard, and you can see my efforts in SB1141, which stops public camping and helps vulnerable people. Below is a clip from the hearing.
